Hello. The winter session has begun. I have been placed on new level class this session, so contents of the lessons are much harder than the last session. As mentioned before, the level of Queen’s university is high class in Canada, and people who want to go this university need high level academic skills. Queen’s university, School of English introduce academic English contents to meet our level of which we lack; our subjects are Core, Spoken, Lab and ECCO. Now, we primarily work on annotated bibliography, critical summary in core class. We work on impromptu speech in spoken class and watching/listening to CBC news, radio and several categories of lecture in lab class. ECCO stands for English Communication Comprehension Online, and we should follow online instructions in English; it helps students to become aware of online resources and peer leaning. My class is made up of Japanese and Chinese students. Actually, I’m only Japanese student in the class, and other students are all Chinese students! Everyone, except me, hope to get into Queen’s university and I’m overwhelmed and stimulated by their motivation, energy and passion.

I go to pub and movie theater and watch a hockey game with my friends these days. I also did Japanese volunteer in Queen’s university. I interviewed to students who study Japanese in Queen’s and teach them Japanese culture such as food, collage life and job hunting. I just have two more months to spend here, Kingston. I’m going to study harder with no regrets.

キングストンは寒さも一段と厳しくなってきて、雪が降った次の日の朝は雪景色が広がり、とても綺麗です。冬休みが終わり、次のセッションが始まりました。新しいクラスは１５人となり、日本人は私１人、残りは中国人１４人で構成されています。私以外はクイーンズ大学入学目標にこちらのスクールオブイングリッシュで勉強をしています。クラスのみんなは本当にレベルが高く向上心も高いので、毎日とても刺激を受けています。クラスのレベルもさらに高くなり、それぞれの授業もアカデミックな内容にそって行われています。留学生活も残り２ヶ月となりました。最近はホッケーの試合を観戦したり、パブに行ったりと楽しく過ごしています。先日は大学の日本語の授業でボランティアとして参加しました。日本のことをもっと知りたいという姿勢がすごく伝わってきて、同じ語学勉強をする立場としてとても刺激を受けました。５ヶ月経ってもなお、まだまだ自分の英語力の乏しさを痛感することもよくあります。もっと上を目指すつもりでこれからも頑張りたいと思います。
