This month, I thought many things due to the fact that almost half of the semester has passed and my study abroad program is drawing to a close.

In my English class, I thought much about the relationship between Language and Culture from different points of view, and also learned about things like essay structure, and how to express opinions. Lately I am always trying to ask questions a lot so that I can understand the topics we are talking about better. I also try to repeat words and phrases that I find attractive or fun so that I can use them when talking to my friends. In speech class, sometimes I feel discouraged because it is a difficult class, but after my group presentation, when I got a feedback paper from Professor and teammates, I noticed someone appreciated my effort.

After school, I started to do new three things, working at Honda international Center as a Volunteer, going to a Homeless Shelter because of service learning program, and going to the University of Hawaii for a conversation club called Coffee Talk. Due to these activity, I have been very busy!

At the homeless shelter, I was surprised that so much Homeless people from Micronesia are homeless. Later I learned that this is due to WW. In world WWII America tested nuclear bombs on Micronesia and its other islands and it became unsafe for people to live there. America made a treaty promising to take in displaced Micronesian families into America, however, once they get to America the government does do anything to take care of them and they end up becoming homeless or living in low income areas.
In addition, I went to the theatre and I saw “Dead Pool”. At that time, I had a hard time understanding it because there are tone of idioms and pop culture that made the movie quite difficult to watch. Because this movie was so difficult, it made me realize what I need to do from now on to improve my English skills. To overcome the language barrier, motivation is one of the most important thing to have to get better at a language. That is why I am going to set daily goals to accomplish that will help me improve my English.

Since I noticed my study abroad program is ending, I sometimes feel upset about it. That being said, I have been able to learn a lot of new things about Hawaii/culture, and have had many special experiences.
