Happy New Year!! In 2017 was a challenge and a new experience for me, because this is my first time to live overseas without my parents for 7 months and the first time I spend with family at New Year. I want to improve more in 2018.

 I had many events in December. On the 23th December, my host family took me the Christmas illumination. Many houses and companies were decorated by the owners along 1km hill. There were also some concerts taking place in the street. On the 25th we celebrated the Christmas Day with host family’s relatives. We ate a special dinner and got some presents. I was surprised because not only the children got presents but also all the relatives. The children got presents from Santa. There were many presents, and they exchanged presents with each other. I also got presents from my hot family. On the 27th to 30th I went to Australia with my Korean friend. The first night, the hotel had trouble about a fire alarm so we all evacuated from the hotel. It was scary, but it was a good memory. During my travel time, I felt my English improved especially my listening skill. On the 31st to 1st January I joined a New Year countdown with my Korean and Chinese friends. I saw new year from around the world and 4hours earlier than Japan. New Zealand is multinational country, so in the city, I saw many people who wore traditional clothing and they did traditional dancing and song.

 4months have passed since I came to New Zealand and my studying abroad is at the half way period. In 2018 many of my friends will go back to their country. For example, one of my best Korean friend is going to go back to Korea next week, so I want to make many memories with her. From 15th January, school will start again, so I want to do my best during my studying abroad period and I want to get more confidence with my English skills.

皆さん、明けましておめでとうございます。2017年は私にとって「挑戦・経験」の1年で、人生の中で一番濃く充実した1年だったように思います。

2018年では、更なる英語力の飛躍を目指したいと思います。

 

 12月23日にはホストファミリーがクリスマスイルミネーションに連れて行ってくれました。約1キロの坂道に、それぞれの住宅やオフィスが独自のデコレーションを施していたり、路上コンサートも行われていたりしました。

12月25日のクリスマスはホストファミリーの親戚が10人ほど来てみんなでお祝いをしました。豪華な夕食を皆で囲み、プレゼントを開けました。こちらのクリスマスで驚いた事が、プレゼントをもらうのが子供だけではないという事です。それぞれのプレゼントには名前が書いてあり、大人も子供もプレゼントをもらっていて、プレゼント交換のような感じでした。私もホストファミリーからプレゼントをもらいました。

12月27日から30日には、3泊4日で韓国人のハウスメイトと一緒にオーストラリア旅行に行きました。滞在初日の夜に、ホテルの火災報知器が作動してホテルから避難するというハプニングがありましたが、結果的にはいい思い出になりました。そして今回のこの旅行で、自分の英語力(特にリスニング力)が上がっている事を実感することができました。

12月31日から1月1日にかけては、韓国、中国の友人3人と一緒にシティのカウントダウンに参加して、世界では最も早く、日本よりは4時間早くお正月を迎えました。ニュージーランドは多国籍国家の為、シティには様々な国の民族衣装を着た人達が、伝統の歌やダンスを披露し新年を祝っていました。

 

  こちらにきて約4ヶ月が経過し、留学期間も折り返しを迎えました。2018年に入り、多くの友人が帰国していきます。特に仲の良かった韓国の友人も、1週間後には帰国するのでとても寂しいですが、残りの期間で沢山の思い出を作りたいです。1月15日からはまた学校が始まります。残りの12週間でさらに自分の英語力を上げられるように努力したいと思います。
