I’d like to share about my break week. I went to Quebec City and Montreal with my Korean friend for 3 nights and 4 days. We’ve had a good relationship since we first met at university. We knew that “Goblin,” a Korean drama, was filmed in Quebec City, so we went there out of curiosity and we visited many locations from “Goblin” and imitated the main characters. Additionally,it was the first time staying with her for an extended period, so I got to know more about her background, habits and character. When we were on the bus, she asked me about honorific titles in Japan. It was difficult to explain in detail, but I believe it was beneficial for me.
I also had an important experience with my host family. Actually, I changed my host family because living with the previous one was getting harder for me. I consulted with my friends and the homestay agency. When I was in Japan, even if things I didn’t want , I used to think it was better to continue, so I didn’t quit and kept going. It was a courageous decision for me to change my host family, but I finally decided to change for my well-being. My life in Canada improved significantly with my current host mother. It was her first time hosting a foreign student, so she was nervous before we see, but she wasn’t nervous soon because I talked to her actively. We’ve had a good relationship. She treats me like her real daughter and always says she wants to live with me forever. I gained new insights from this experience and learned that it’s not bad to change things and environments you don’t like. If anyone reading my report is worried about changing something, you should try to change it for yourself. I believe that experiences are my best teacher.
