I’d like to share my travel experience in Banff and my volunteer work in San Francisco. I went to Banff with my Korean friend, who has traveled with me before, for three nights and four days. I had always wanted to go, so I had been excited since I booked the trip. Banff had so many beautiful natural views. Everything looked like it came straight out of a book, almost too perfect to be real. It was my last trip with her, and we exchanged letters when we said goodbye. After that, I went to San Francisco to do volunteer work for three weeks. When I arrived in San Francisco, a coordinator picked me up, and l asked her why she lived there. She explained that when she needs help, she says, “Can you lend me a hand?” | learned from her that I need to communicate with locals more actively. So, I made an effort to talk to people about my reasons for doing volunteer work and my future more openly than I did when I was in Canada. The local people taught me a lot. I rarely see homeless people in Japan, so I was surprised by how many homeless people there were in San Francisco. I had known that there were many, but there were far more than I expected. I gained a lot of valuable experiences through my volunteer work. I stayed with a host family, which included the parents and their daughter. I learned a lot from them, especially about cooking and how to live more enjoyably. One day, the daughter took me to a bar, where I met her friends. I was the only Japanese person there. I had so much fun, feeling like one of the local girls. It was one of the best experiences of my life.
