海外留学レポートReport from Overseas

I moved on the next step

Feb . 2018

Service learning has been started from January 2nd.

I am doing volunteer at Transition Projects which is a shelter for homelessness and Carpe Mundi which is a school of studying abroad. Students who are at Carpe Mundi are going to go to study abroad such as Costa Rica, Thailand, and South of Africa. In this organization, I attend the meeting a couple days per a week. I thought it was good opportunity to improve my English skills, so I talked to them every time. At the first day at there, I couldn’t talk to them because their English were so fast. However, one of their students taught me about how to use slang. I was curious why I couldn’t understand what they speak. That was slang. If she were not there, I still couldn’t understand what they speak. Now, I can understand it Also, I changed my mind to speak English.
For almost four months, I learned about English in the school. Therefore, I can learn English out of school. These are totally different, so it is good opportunity. Furthermore, I could make a lot of friends who are American college students.

Another placement which is Transition Projects is a shelter for homelessness. In Portland, there are huge problems about homelessness, hunger, and children who lost parents. Most of my jobs at there are office work, but I can learn about homeless. In this shelter, there are shower rooms, roundly rooms, cafeteria, and so on. Also, homelessness can star for four months in there. I couldn’t believe it at the first day because this organization was so kind to them. Not only using English but also knowing real problems is really important. Also, they give a whole bunch of donations from many people. One of donor donates every day. I can’t believe it. Every two hours I have to organize these donations. If nobody organizes donations, homeless people can’t live in the street definitely. That’s why I do my job. Most of people think that my job is so boring, but I don’t think now.
I think that I support them in spite of being a shade. I changed my mind to homeless. I want to help them in Japan, too.
