海外留学レポートReport from Overseas

Happy New Year!

Jan . 2018

Happy New Year! 2017 passed so quickly especially from September to December, from when I came here in Canada. Since we enter the new year into 2018, I’d like to change my style of writing this report in English.

I’ve been the halfway of long winter vacation since December 8th. School will be started from January 12th, and now is January 2nd. This means there are few days left. I really am worried about the next semester, but I’m here to struggle to overcome various problems so I’ll try to face the problems and find the accurate way by myself, I won’t escape from reality. This is what I must keep in mind this year!

Speaking of winter vacation, I went to Montreal and Quebec for about 1week with Aya. I spent 2days and half a day in Montreal, and the same days in Quebec. In those cities, the main language is not English but FRENCH. Can you imagine? Even though I was in inside Canada, I felt as if I was in France. That feeling was kind of culture shock, but at that time, I’m jealous of them because they can speak two languages. I must be like them in 8 months, in my case, Japanese and English. By the way, there are many places to visit in Montreal; for example, Notre-Dame Basilica, which is the most popular tourist destination, Olympic stadium and Christmas Market. Quebec is known for old city. All scenery is perfect for people who like to take pictures. The trip was pretty good except severe coldness and lots of snow. I can’t wait for the next trip with my senior.

After the trip, I visited my host family’s daughter’s house on Christmas Eve and Christmas. Each of four kids was so excited that they couldn’t control themselves. We had special turkey that was so delicious. Before going to bed, children prepared cookies, milk and somehow, carrots. The next day, I was woken up by children’s voice having been full of delight. They ripped all presents’ paper off and threw it on the floor. That scene was that I can’t see in Japan. Their parents were busy to collect wastepaper, at last. Surprisingly, I got some presents from my host family. Thanks to them, I was satisfied with the Christmas experience.

Without knowing, I was on 30th. All families gathered together in my house, the number was 19. Too many to hear each other. Canadian people put their priority on families, I think. Their family bond really makes my heart warm.

On New Year’s Eve, I waited for Japanese Happy New Year and celebrated. At that time, I felt the time difference the most between Japan and Canada. All family members had gone somewhere so I went to downtown to watch fireworks with Aya. Great last night in 2017.

 May everyone have good 2018!
